Let’s Talk Tea | Mazawatte Tea – Earl Grey | Review

Hey there Teacups! It’s time again for another Let’s Talk Tea post, this time around it features a bagged Earl Grey tea from Mazawatte Tea. You’ll probably recognise the name from a few posts I’ve done in the past and if you don’t you can find my past reviews of their teas here. This earl grey I’ve tried in the past as it was part of a Tea Tourist box but that was a few months ago and I really enjoyed it when I first tried it for a bagged tea it was quite good (believe it or not I’m not completely against bagged tea – if it isn’t it bleached paper bags). So, When I saw that it was included in the package that Mazawatte sent I was excited to try it again. I will admit that because of that I did think about not featuring it again but I considering it has been a few months since I tried it I thought why not feature it again and see if my thoughts on it had changed at all in the last few months.

The dry leaves of this tea were as you would expect them to be malty slightly sweet and a little fruity. Having tried this before through TeaTourist I knew I was going to enjoy it, it’s delicious and classic and just what you need at the end of the day to relax. I know I’m not supposed to have black tea close to bed time but when I need an earl grey nothing else with suffice. The thing I love the most about this specific blend is the addition of both the orange and the lemon peel they add such a unique twist to this classic that I can’t get enough of.

Tea Tasting Notes

I have to say this is probably the best bagged Earl Grey I’ve ever had, the strong tea base is a sturdy foundation for the fruity orange and lemon (the lemon was much stronger than the orange) notes. I mostly enjoy tea without added flavour but the flavours added to this one all taste completely natural so you really can’t tell. You all know I’m crazy for Earl Grey so there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to love this. In terms of astringency there is a little bit but it’s honestly hardly noticeable, I added a little honey and a splash of lemon and everything balanced out perfectly. The only way in which this blend falls flat for me is that it has a very dry mouth feel and left me needed another drink after I had finished my cup. This is close to being a perfect bagged earl grey and I can’t wait to see if anything beats this in the future .

Overall Teacup Rating: 4 / 5

You can find our more about Mazawatte Tea and purchase their Earl Grey for yourself here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on twitter (@teaisawishblog) and I’ll answer them as soon as I can. If you would like to bee me re-visit some of the teas that I’ve tried in the past let me know which ones and I’ll do more posts like this in the future.

Speak to you all on Sunday. Happy Steeping! – Kimberley
