Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post this time around I’m going to be reviewing Tregothnan’s Saffron Fields blend. Before I get into this review if you haven’t read my pervious posts featuring Tregothnan you can find them all here (this will be my last post featuring them until my tea buying ban is over but at least there is a backlog of 6 posts for you all to read until then) . If you’ve already read those posts, you’ll know I’ve pretty much loved everything I’ve tried from Tregothnan so far and from the aroma of this blend alone I think I’ve quite possible saved the best for last completely by accident.

Here’s what Tregothnan themselves had to say about this blend on the info card that came with the sample ‘’It tastes like a cream tea in a cup! Using Saffron from a brilliant British grower, blended with lemon rind and black tea leaves.’’ If you’ve read any of my Let’s Talk Tearooms posts, you will know that cream teas are my jam (pardon the pun) so when I read that small description I knew that If it was accurate (which they almost always are with Tregothnan) I was going to adore this blend.

Dry Leaves

Malt – Sweet – Citrus (Lemon) – Slightly Woody

Ingredients: Black Tea, Lemon Rind, SaffronThe aroma of this tea isn’t a complex one but it’s perfect in it’s simplicity the malty notes of the black tea paired perfectly with the citrus notes from the lemon rind and theirs a delicate sweetness to it that ties it all together. As for the saffron I couldn’t really pick it out in the aroma I’ve heard it can be delicate, so I’m not surprised I couldn’t pick It out with it fighting against the strong aroma of the black tea and the lemon. I’ve never had a black tea with saffron in it, so I’ll be doing so more research into its aroma and flavour, so I can be a bit more in depth with my reviews of blends that contain it.

Tea Tasting Notes

To cut a long story short I adore this blend and I understand exactly what Tregothnan mean when they say it tastes like a cream tea in a mug and once I added a little Oatly barista milk that was amplified tenfold. I had so many teas not match up to the descriptions that their companies give them but this one did completely and because I’m not used to that happening I was honestly a little bit surprised. Once steeped I was expecting the black tea to overpower the lemon but they paired perfectly together and once I added the milk it was as if I had just been given the worlds best scone filled with clotted cream and lemon curd (not traditional but one of my favourite thing to treat myself to). I always say that tea isn’t just a drink and that it’s an experience and I think that the way this blend was able to almost perfectly recreate the taste of one of my favourite teas and atmosphere of one of my favourite locations just proves that.For me this blend was naturally sweet enough and didn’t need any sweetener but like I always say that’s a decision you should make once you’ve tried the tea for yourself. I would never normally automatically put milk into a tea but this one thrives on it and truly comes to life once you add it so if you want that full cream tea experience I would highly suggest you add milk from the get go. Mouthfeel wise without the milk it is somewhat drying, but I’ve found that to be the case with most blends that have lemon in them but once I added the milk it was much smoother, and it seemed to perfect balance out the acidity of the lemon making for a much more pleasant drink.

You all know just how many different Tea’s I’ve had the opportunity to try over the last few years, so you’ll understand how much of a big deal it is for me to say that this is one of the most perfectly blended tea I’ve ever had. In fact, I think this might be my favourite out of all the blend from Tregothnan that I’ve had the pleasure of trying, I’m really hoping that they will have some of this for sale at The Great British Tea Festival in October because I’m going to need a lot more of it in my life.
