Let’s Talk Tea | Eteaket – Yellow Gold Oolong | Review

Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Eteaket‘s Yellow Gold Oolong. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now you’ll know that I’ve tried quite a few blends, pure teas and tisanes from Eteaket and I’ve loved every single one of them so when It comes time for me to try another new one I always get really excited because I know that no matter what it’s going to be amazing because everything that the team at Eteaket lay their hands on is phenomenal.50787687_291359228243176_6834822929776115712_n.jpgHere’s what Eteaket have to say about this tea on their website: Yellow Gold Oolong is a traditional Chinese tea made by unique processes that create a semi oxidised tea sitting between a black and green tea. Our Yellow Gold Oolong is hand-rolled and when steeped in hot water the leaves open  to create a complex mix of sweetness and tanginess topped off with notes of fresh grass. There is a deep earthy note to this tea that is truly unique and refreshing. Best drunk Morning – Noon50652047_367238530777586_6727176747097260032_nl.jpg

Tea Tasting Notes

I’m a huge fan of oolong and because of that I’m incredibly picky with them with and I deffinelty have my favourites that I go back to time and time again and when it comes to trying new ones even I’m always hesitant to get excited because so many oolongs/oolong blends I’ve tried have let me down and been really underwhelming. I’ve heard of yellow gold oolong before but never been able to find any to buy online so I was really excited to see that Eteaket had included this in the box of samples they sent me to try and having tried quite a few of their pure teas and blends before this tasting session I knew to expect amazing things from them. For this tasting session I used 2 tea scoops of the tea and I managed to get 3 well rounded perfect steeps out of those leaves with the strength only weakening in the 3rd.51170902_408217876386941_7203022620567011328_n.jpgAfter reading Eteaket‘s description of this blend I was expecting a somewhat sweet, tangy, grassy, vegetal cup and I got exactly that but with added notes of straw and citrus in the aftertaste that I didn’t expect at all from a tea like this. This tea is bright and refreshing but it has quite a heavy/smooth mouthfeel that counteracts the brightness of it (if that makes any sense). Normally an oolong like this being as fresh and bright as it is would have a light mouthfeel that would be somewhat drying towards the back of the mouth but this oolong is clearly an exception to that. I don’t have a lot of this tea left now so I think I’ll have to make an Eteaket order soon because this oolong needs to be a permanent part of my tea ‘stash’/collection. I also want to try this cold steeped as I think it would deffinelty shine a whole new light on it and give it a little more complexity. If you are an avid oolong fan like me you should deffinelty give this one a try I have a feeling you’ll love it.

Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5

If you want to find out more about Eteaket and purchase some of this oolong for yourself, you can do both here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me in Twitter/Instagram @teaisawishblog and I’ll answer them all as soon as I can.

Speak to you all again soon. Happy Steeping – Kimberley
