Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Debonair Tea Co’s – Extreme Earl Blend. No matter how long you’ve been reading my blog you’ll know by now that I absolutely LOVE Earl Grey, so when I saw that Debonair Tea Co had included this in the package of blends they sent me to try out I couldn’t have been happier. With me being such a huge Earl Grey fan and having lots that I already love, my standards are extremely high and it takes a lot to wow me these days. With that in mind, I was a little bit worried going into this tasting session that this blend wasn’t going to live up to my expectations.

Here’s what Debonair Tea Co have to say about this blend on their website: “The finest organic Ceylon Orange Pekoe black tea scented with exquisite Organic Bergamot Oil for an exceptional tea drinking experience. This particular Earl Grey blend was originally developed for Batchelor’s patisserie in Cliftonville, Margate and proved such a hit we decided to stock it as part of our core range.

Ingredients: Organic Ceylon Orange Pekoe and Organic Bergamot Oil.

Tea Tasting Notes

Sadly this particular Earl Grey just wasn’t for me the bergamot was far too strong and on its own for me it was just to much and far to floral. The bergamot notes drown out the black tea and all of its subtle but delicious woody, nutty and earthy notes. Luckily the robust malty notes were able to fight through the floral wall but not by much thus making the cup really unbalanced and not very pleasant to drink at all. I tried doing what I normally do with an Earl Grey and added a little bit of honey and a dash of milk but that sadly that didn’t change much.

Adding in the milk and honey did manage to clam the floral notes down a little bit but not by much and seen as the tea had already had its subtler notes downed out this became a very one note kind of cup and that’s just not what I look for in an Earl Grey. It was near impossible to balance this blend out no matter what I tried and as much as I wanted to add this to my list of favourites I just couldn’t do that this time. On a happier not because their bergamot is so strong in this I think it would be great to bake with as it would stand its ground in cakes, cookies and frosting. Even though personally I didn’t enjoy this blend very much remember that just because a certain blend isn’t my cup of tea that doesn’t mean that it won’t be yours so don’t let just my opinions stop you from giving this blend a chance because you might end up loving it.
