Let’s Talk Tea | Udyan Tea – Chocolate Luxe (Black Tea) | Review

Hey There Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Udyan Tea’s – Chocolate Luxe blend. You all know that sometimes I struggle with ”chocolate” blends and that I’ve only ever had a few that I’ve really enjoyed. But, after trying a new one recently and loving it I thought I would jump straight into trying another to see if it was going to be just as good if not better. After loving the first blend that I tried from Udyan Tea I really was expecting a lot from this blend.RoundPhoto_Nov052019_132517.pngHere’s what Udyan Tea have to say about this blend over on their website: ”Add some extra sweetness to your daily tea ritual with Chocolate Luxe Black Tea, a signature blend from our master tea blenders. This tea has been created by blending black tea with natural chocolate flavour, cocoa and Indian spices like ginger, cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon and more. It has a sweet, rich chocolate flavour with a spicy finish. A perfect blend that can be enjoyed after meals or on a lazy morning for an energetic day”

Tea Tasting Notes

Another stand out chocolate blend. I can’t believe that I’ve tried two chocolate blends in the space of two weeks and love them both because that never happens. I’m so glad that this blend is tasty because I didn’t want it to be another chocolate blend that was going to let me down. The black tea base is a little bit lighter than I thought it would be but it still comes through and adds a delicious malty base to this blend. The cardamom is a stand out note but the rest of the species are very subtle which is the only way in which this blends falls flat.

As much as I love cardamom and how well it pairs with chocolate, I would have loved to have been able to taste the cinnamon, ginger and black pepper. It would have made this blend much more of a chocolate chai blend and I really would have enjoyed that as chocolate chai blends are probably the only chocolate blends I enjoy. On it’s own I was expecting this blend to be drying in the mouth with it having a black tea base and spices but that wasn’t the case at all. I think it’s because of the chocolate elements adding a creaminess to it meaning it has quite a smooth mouthfeel instead of a dry one.

As with all chocolate blends I had to try this one with some soya milk added and I’m very glad that I did. Adding milk into this only intensifies the creaminess of the chocolate elements and makes thing blend feel so much more indulgent. It does take away a little bit of the natural sweetness but you can bring that back with a small teaspoon of honey. When I made a cup of this with milk I ended up using double the amount of tea I used for the cup with out because I knew that the milk was going to cancel out a lot of the subtle notes so I used double the amount of tea and that seemed to stop it from happening. I think I might try adding some more chai spices to this blend and brew it stove top to make  latte as it think it would work really well.

Thank you to Udyan Tea for sending me this blend and showing me that there are at least a few good chocolate tea blends out there. This is one I would honestly buy time and time again as it’s a nice indulgent blends for times when I want something sweet but don’t want to have a heavy dessert.

Overall Teacup Rating: 4.9/5
