How Do You Brew? | Rudolph’s Magic Flying Potion – Apple & Raspberry Crumble | Recipe

Hey there Teacups! I’m finally back today with another How Do You Brew? Recipe post, it’s been such a long time since my last one and I apologise for that, but I’ve just been in far too much pain to stand and bake and I’ve had to put my health first. But when my Christmas Leaves Of The World Package arrived I was inspired by their Rudolph’s Magic Flying Potion blend to make a Christmas crumble. Luckily my body decided to give me just enough time to make this before the pain started again. I think that it really helped that this was so easy to make as well.

Rudolph’s Magic Flying Potion is a honeybush based blend with sour cherries, Natural vanilla, almonds, peach, pink rose, cranberries, raspberries, pink cornflower petals and it’s absolutely delicious. I’ve fallen head over heals with honeybush this year and I’m always on the look out for new blends that use it as a base. Since this one was released last year (and I finished my bag in only a few days) I’ve been so excited for it to come back this year and I knew I wanted to use it to make some sort of tea infused treat and with all of it’s fruity notes I knew it had to be a crumble.

Because of the blend having a lot of fruity notes I figured that this blend would be the best out of all of Leaves Of The World Christmas range to make a crumble with. I knew I wanted the main fruit I used in the crumble to be apples but I didn’t want it to all be one note and I wanted to add another fruity element to it so I decided to use raspberries. The reason I decided to use raspberries is because they are an ingredient in the tea and I thought that would tie everything together quite well.

How To

The first thing I like to do when preparing a recipe like this is get all of my ingredients measured out and put them in some sort of order so it is easy for me to remember the order in which I have to add things in.

When it came to making this I wanted the tea to come through as strong as possible so after measuring out all of my ingredients I steeped my tea. I used 7 tea scoop of this blend and I steep is in about 250ml of water to make sure it was as strong as possible. While it was steeping I peeled and chopped my apples.

After peeling, coring and chopping my apples I places them into a small bowl and poured the tea over them. I left them to sit in the tea while I pre headed my oven and put the raspberries into my baking dish (and had a cup of tea .. of course).

After the apples had been in the tea for a while I took them out and added them to the dish with the raspberries (being sure to mix them) and then I sprinkled some brown sugar over them and made sure they were all even coated with at least a little bit of it.

After making sure my fruit was all evenly spread out I cut open my bag of crumble topping mix and evenly distributed it across the top of the fruit. I used the whole bag as I do like quite a thick layer of ”crumble”. I then dusted it with cinnamon and nutmeg being sure to mix it in with the crumble so that it didn’t burn while it was cooking.

I then pre-heated my oven for 10 minutes at gas mark 6. After it had been pre-heated for 10 minutes and baked my crumble in the centre of the oven for 30 minutes until the crumble started to go golden brown.

When the crumble was close to being finished I prepared my custard and added a tiny sprinkling of nutmeg for good measure. Because you can’t have fruit crumble without custard and nutmeg; to me is such a quintessential Christmas flavour.

After it was done cooking I pulled it out of the oven and left it for around 3 minutes to ”stand” so that it didn’t all fall apart when I went to serve myself a portion.

I then placed my crumble into a single serve bowl and topped it with lashings of nutmeg custard and enjoyed it to my hearts content. Not only was it really easy to make (even though I was in a lot of pain afterwards) it also worked really well and with the custard it was so heart warming. The perfect dessert for cold winter evenings.

I am honestly so proud of how well this worked and the fact that steeping the apples in the tea worked so well that the tea was the first thing I could taste when I took my first mouthful. I will certainly be making this time and time again and I’ll make sure I try and use a different tea each time I make it and I’ll change up the fruit pairings as well. I’m so thankful that Leaves Of The World make such unique and creative blends that inspire me to do things like this and I’m also thankful that my body gave me enough of a break from the pain that I was actually able to make it.

If you want to make a tea infused custard to pair with this crumble head over to The Tea Library where my fellow Leaves Of The World T-Rep and great tea friend Becca has just posted a tea Infused custard recipe.
