The Twelve Days Of Teamas – Ft. Yunomi (Day 2) | Chasandai: Sakura Sencha with Sugared Sakura Leaves | Review

Hey there Teacups! Day 2 of Teamas is here and today I’m going to be reviewing another tea from Yunomi, While this tea is sold by Yunomi, it’s made by a Japanese company by the name of Chasandai Tea Factory so all credit goes to them. As you all know all of the teas I’m reviewing for this series were sent to me by Yunomi and the way we went about picking which teas were going to be a part of this series is that they very kindly let me pick six teas (see if you can tell which 6 by the end of the series) and then the team at Yunomi picked six to try and make sure that some of the teas included were a little bit out of my comfort zone. Yunomi came up with that idea and I was so thankful that they did because we ended up with such a great mix of teas.

You all know I’m a huge lover of anything and everything with Sakura so I’m really glad that this was included in the line up for this series because I knew that I was going to love it. When it comes to tea I’ll be honest black teas and oolongs are my favourite and that’s not to say that I don’t love green tea I just tend to reach for both black tea and oolong before I reach for green teas. While I knew I was going to love the Sakura element of this tea, I didn’t quite know what I was going to think about the Sencha base. But I had no reason to have any worries because this blend is phenomenal and spoiler alert I love it and I love it even more than I thought I would.

Tea Tasting Notes

I had been looking forward to trying this blend since the moment it arrived at my house and I saw it in the box of teas that Yunomi had sent me for this series. I’m a sucker for anything with Sakura in it and I couldn’t think of a pairing more perfect that Sakura and green tea, especially sugared sakura leaves. I’ve never had anything like this blend and I honestly loved it I was expecting the Sakura to be overly sweet but it’s a nice subtle sweetness that pairs very well with the vegetal Sencha base which is incredible and totally not overly grassy like some can be.

What I wasn’t expecting from the Sencha base was that it has a nice buttery quality to it that reminds me a bit of one of my favourite oolongs that is creamy, buttery, and vegetative. Most of this blends very notable sweetness, come from both the sugared leaves and the natural sweetness of the floral quality of the Sakura and somehow both of those things together remind me some what of Matcha sugar cookies with Sakura icing. Rather than like a typical floral tea that would be all artificial Sakura and absolutely nothing else. It certainly doesn’t give off a heavy floral taste the way rose petal tea does. It’s a very subtle touch and I love it.


Here in the UK most teas that claim to have Sakura in them are actually just flavoured with cherry and rose petals and while they are nice its just not the same at all and is often far to strong so this was a very welcome break from blends like that and it was so nice to finally have a Sakura blend that wasn’t overly floral and that let the teas shine along side the Sakura. I did three steeps with the leaves from the tasting session the first was by far the best, and while the Sencha base is lovely I did miss the Sakura in other to steeps and would have loved for it to be able to carry through a good few steeps.

All in all this blend is absolutely delicious and I can’t see what I have left of it lasting very long at all. I’m very glad I had the chance to try it and for as long as Yunomi stock it I’ll be going back to purchase it because this has to be one of the best green tea Sakura blends I have ever had.
