Let’s Talk Tea | The Milana Company – The Royal Emperor’s Chai | Review

Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing The Milana Company’s – Royal Emperor’s Chai blend. Yes we may have passed fall and be almost done with winter but that doesn’t mean I will stop drinking crazy amount of Chai. This is actually the first new Chai blend I’ve tried this year and I’m shocked that it’s taken me so long to open a new one if I’m honest. I went through a lot of Chai during autumn/winter so I actually had non already opened in my stash so I thought it was about time I jumped into reviewing this so I can enjoy it over the next few weeks and I can finally restock my tea stash with some new Chai.RoundPhoto_Jan232020_104028Here’s what The Milana Company have to say about this blend over on their website: ”Treating yourself with tea should be a luxurious inclination, not a rare indulgence. We dare to say that our hand-crafted organic Chai blend is suitable for the royalties. We’ve added a delicate rose to our luxury chai blend for a touch of sophistication and allurement. The divine combination of aroma from the tea and spices will turn your home into a wellness palace with one single brew.”

Ingredients: Assam Black Tea, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Clove, Black Pepper, Anise, Fennel and Rose Petals. (*All ingredients are certified Organic.)RoundPhoto_Jan232020_104043

Tea Tasting Notes

You all know by now that I love Chai and I’ve been drinking it for a long time now. It’s definitely been a long time favourite which is great but as a result of that I don’t tend to reach for classic Chai anymore and I tend to reach for Chai blends with a little bit of a twist as they add some variation into the teas I drink everyday. I still drink classic Chai blends but just not as much as I used to so this blend has definitely arrived at the perfect time.

I have now tried this blend on it own and as both a hot latte and an iced latte and I’ll be honest it definitely works better as a latte either hot or cold. On its own it was a little to astringent for me and some spice elements were stronger than others meaning it resulted in a cup of tea with almost no depth. The rose was present but it wish it had have been stronger because Chai with rose is one of my favourites right now. Adding in a little honey helped to balance out the stronger spice notes which did allow the rose to come through a little bit more.

The first thing that came to mind for me when I drank this is a black tea based rose boba tea that I had a few years ago. Aside from the stronger spices this is almost exactly like that and when I took my first sip it take me straight back to the moment I had that boba tea. I’m yet to use this blend to make boba tea but I will definitely try it out at some point this year (I’ll post about it over on insta if I do).

Yes I would have liked some of the spices and the rose element to have been a bit stronger but all in all this is still an absolutely delicious blend I can balance it out myself and tailor it to my taste. The choice of Assam for the base of this blend was definitely the best choice its robust and malty enough that it stands its ground against all the other element but it doesn’t overpower them at all. This is clearly a very well thought out blend and I glad I was given the opportunity to buy it. This is definitely one of those teas that I can see myself drinking but not buying if that makes sense. Because I have had other teas a little bit like this that have been better. Remember thought that this tea could end up being perfect for you. Don’t let my taste and personal opinions put you off trying it for yourself.

Overall Teacup Rating: 4.8/5

  2. […] Tuesday 21st January (2020) 14:30pm |  My third cup of tea for the day was The Milana Company’s – Royal Emperor’s Chai blend. A delicious chai with a twist that I just can’t stop drinking. This is a black tea based blend with a delicious mix of spices and rose petals and its beyond delicious. Those of you who have been reading my blog will know that I reviewed this recently and while there are some elements of it that I wish could have been stronger like the rose and some of the subtler spices but this is still a really tasty blend and makes a killer latte. This time around I had this as a latte as that’s just the way that I enjoy it the most but I will definitely be drinking this on it’s own on occasion until I finish the bag. If you love rose and chai I would definitely recommend giving this a try its fantastic. If you want to read my full in depth review of this blend you can find it here. […]
