Let’s Talk Tea | Adagio Teas – Chocolate Matcha | Review

Hey there Teacups.. Happy Matcha Monday! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea/ Matcha Monday post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Adagio Teas – Chocolate Matcha. So far I’ve tried two other flavoured Matchas from Adagio and as you’ll know I’ve loved them both so after taking a little break from Adagio flavoured Matchas lest week to review a different companies Matcha, I was really excited to try a new Adagio one and see if it was going to be just as good as the other two I tried recently. I’ve only ever tried one Chocolate Matcha before and I’ll be honest I wasn’t a hug fan so I was hoping that this one would have been much better and the chocolate flavour would actually come through.RoundPhoto_Feb072020_194251Here’s what Adagio Teas have to say about this Matcha over on their website: ”A healthy alternative for chocolate lovers! Tea Tasting Notes

When I opened the bag I was actually quite surprised by how much of a chocolate smell came from the tea. I have previously tried a few of adagio’s flavoured matchas and they all smell absolutely fantastic. The only difference though this time around is that once I added the water and started to prepare this Matcha rather than that strong aroma of say raspberry or cinnamon apple getting stronger the chocolate aroma dissipated and the Matcha and it’s vegetal/grassy/seaweed notes was the start of the show. I will admit that at that point I was expecting to try this Matcha and for the chocolate not to come through at all because it had disappeared completely in the aroma but luckily I had not reason to be worried and the chocolate definitely came through just as much in the taste as it did in the initial aroma. RoundPhoto_Feb102020_095059The first cup of this Matcha I had, I had on it’s own as that’s what I like to do when I do tasting session with Matcha. Day to day I drink Matcha both on it’s own and I also use it to make lattes so that’s why I do both for my tasting sessions so I can give you all a well rounded review before you spend your hard earned money on a tea. The cup of this Matcha that I had on it’s own was grassy, vegetal (of course), sweet and creamy and it’s the start of the show for sure which I don’t mind at all but I know Matcha is an acquired taste and people wouldn’t by a chocolate Matcha looking for that. The chocolate was present but was much more subtle than I expected. it provides a subtle milk chocolate note and a very like hazelnut touch which I wasn’t expecting at all. I definitely would have liked for both of those notes to be much stronger though. RoundPhoto_Feb102020_095138

The cup of this I had with both soya milk and honey was quite different from the first cup I had. Adding the milk made the matchas grassy/vegetal notes calm down a little and it intensified the sweetness and the creaminess which was great. The honey seemed to make the chocolate notes a little stronger as well which was definitely a welcomed change, I think the fact the creaminess was intensified definitely added to that milk chocolate like effect. I enjoy this both on it’s own and as a latte but I can see myself drinking this as a latte much more than on its own. I think this would also make a great iced latte with chocolate milk so I’m defintely going to give that a try. Since doing this tasting session I’ve added this Matcha to hot chocolate and it worked so well so I can see my self experimenting with this a lot throughout 2020.
