Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Teakruthi‘s Majestic Chai. The team over at Teakruthi very kindly sent me over this blend along with a few more to try at the end of 2019 and I’ve been waiting for the time to come when I could fit this review into my posting schedule and the time has finally arrived. I wanted to start with their Majestic Chai first over the other blend I was sent because it’s filled with delicious cardamom and you all know just how mad I am for blends that are cardamom heavy. I’m honestly shocked I’ve been able to wait this long to try it because normally blends with lots of cardamom in them don’t last very long with me and I hadn’t even touched this one since it arrived at my house. I guess I definitely have more will power than I thought I did.
Here’s what Teakruthi have to say about this blend over on their website: ”Along the southwest windswept coast of Sri Lanka in the district of Ratnapura lies a little known gem of an area featuring a transition from plains to hills. On this lush landscape is a high grown, black tea that is infused with the rich flavour of cardamom. Each leaf is carefully hand-selected to bring you only the highest quality flavour in rich black tea. From the central hills of Sri Lanka comes the cardamom with which the rich black tea is infused. Enjoy the artisan crafted tea, bountifully filled with the queen of spices, anytime you need a mental vacation.”
Ingredients: Pure Ceylon Black Tea & Cardamom Spice.
Tea Tasting Notes
I’ll be honest when this blend arrived and I was it was a chai I was expecting for it to have all the classic chai elements like cinnamon and cloves but this particular chai just has cardamom which isn’t a bad thing at all in fact its a great thing it just shocked me a little. I suppose though that if you take the meaning of chai literally it does just mean spiced black tea and since cardamom is a spice that means even with the cinnamon and cloves this is still actually a chai blend. For a cardamom lover like me this blend is a dream come true because it blends a beautifully mellow and smooth Ceylon black tea with my favourite spice in the world and the two work together so well.
The Ceylon is medium bodied and truly lets the cardamom take the limelight, while itself being sweet and smooth and ever so slightly floral (If you can’t tell I love Ceylon). The fragrance and flavour of cardamom is definitely present and strong which is fantastic. because there really aren’t enough blends out there right now that just feature cardamom along with black tea and have it be the star of the show completely. This blend is definitely simple in the ingredients but not in it aroma or taste. It’s a so calming and mellow and is such a pleasure to drink.
I’ve now had this blend one its own and as both a hot and an iced latte and I have to say I think I definitely prefer this on it’s own. As the Ceylon isn’t an incredibly strong black tea adding milk overpowers it completely. It also makes the cardamom much more subtle and all in all milk is just too much for this blend. This is one that you do not need to do a single thing to before you drink it its perfect on its own. It’s very well balanced and neither ingredient overpowers the other.
Unlike most stronger black tea this is not drying in the mouth at all and it is in no way shape or form astringent. This is definitely one I be repurchasing in the future, it may be a simple blend but its absolutely delicious and such a delight to drink. I can’t wait to have this blend as a staple part of my tea collection/stash in the future.
