Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post and this time around I’m going to be reviewing Tiger Tea Co’s – Chocofrolic blend. Not too long ago Tiger Tea Co asked me if I wanted to try out some of their blends and review them for my blog. They very kindly let me go through their website and pick a few blends to try, and of course when I saw this chocolate tea I had to ask them to include it in the package they were sending. While my journey with chocolate teas has been a bumpy one over the years, over the last few months I have tried and loved quite a few well done chocolate blends so I was intrigued to see if this blend was going to be hit or miss and see if it would knock any of the currently chocolate teas out of my top 5…
Here’s what Tiger Tea Co themselves have to say about this blend over on their website: “Chocofrolic – Cosy and comforting. The sort of warming, spicy and indulgent blend to be enjoyed on a wintry evening by a crackling log fire.”
Ingredients: Ceylon Black Tea, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Vanilla Pieces , Cocoa Nibs, Red Chilli, Marigold Petals.
For the tasting session I tried this blend a number of different ways; I tried it on its own (hot), with just honey added (hot), with honey and milk added (hot) and finally as an iced latte (with honey and milk). Out of all the different ways I tried this I think my favourite was definitely the iced latte. That’s not to say it wasn’t nice hot but even with the addition of the milk and the honey (hot), the Chilli was too much for me in my throat. But to most others the Chilli probably won’t be very strong at all I just don’t deal with spicy flavours very well and they can often trigger my migraines.
Aside from the chilli being too much for me in the hot cup(s) I had, all of the other ingredients were really well balanced and I could definitely pick each one out clearly. The Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Vanilla pair beautifully with the Ceylon as you would expect. The Cocoa was present but for my personal taste it could have been a little stronger in the hot cup(s) I had, though I find if you add in a little extra cocoa it balances out quite well. The addition of honey and milk boosts that sweet milk chocolate element so if you are going to try this and you have it hot I would recommend having it with both added in.
The iced latte I made with this was much more my cup of tea and for me the cocoa was able to come through much more and was much stronger and the Chilli was much more subtle and while I could definitely still pick it out, it wasn’t making my throat hurt and that made for a much more enjoyable experience for me. The Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Vanilla were just as strong if not a little bit stronger than they were in the hot cup(s).
I wasn’t too sure if the Ceylon base would stand up too well to the addition of quite a bit of milk but there was still an enjoyable malty base to this latte. I would definitely recommend having this as an iced latte, I used two tea scoops for the iced latte I made but only filled my tea steeper half way which I do for all my lattes. I steeped the tea for 5 mins and for me I would highly recommend the full 5 minutes so you get the fullest flavours out of this blend. Of course try it hot as well as iced as you never know you may end up loving it hot! I don’t think this chocolate blend for me has made my top 5 but it was still tasty and I’m thankful I was given the chance to try it out. I never would have purchased a blend with Chilli in it for myself so it’s introduced me to something brand new.
