Tea Together Tuesday (20) | What Is The Perfect Tea For Every Mood?

Hey there Teacups! It’s time again for another Tea Together Tuesday post and this week’s prompt “Are there certain teas/tisanes you turn to according to your mood?” was suggested to Jann and I by @itsteababe over on Instagram. Since we have been asking fellow tea community members for prompt suggestion you have all been coming up with such great ideas and we love how varied they all are. I definitely have a really varied group of teas and tisanes I turn to depending on the mood I’m in and without Tea Together Tuesday and this prompt suggestion I don’t think it’s something I would have ever posted about here on my blog. So I’m very thankful for Tea Together Tuesday and the fact that it pushes me to be a little more thoughtful and creative with my content.

As I said I have quite a varied set of teas and tisanes I turn to depending on what mood I’m in, how I’m feeling mentally and physically and things like that but if I were to go through all of them separately I would be here for hours and I’m sure you would all get very bored so instead, I pick the one tea that has been a constant for me throughout my whole tea journey and is something I reach for when I’m sad, when I’m tired, when I’m happy, when I want comfort, when I’m stressed, when I’m anxious and really it always managed to help me feel better it seems to help fix everything just for a little while and while I do have other teas I turn to this is by far the one I reach for the most.

As you can see the tea I turn to the most is Earl Grey and in particular this Team Tea – Earl Grey as it is my gold standard for Earl Grey. Those of you who are long time readers and know me well, will know that Earl Grey has always been a favourite of mine since the very start of my tea journey. Back them it was bagged Earl Grey but over the years it’s stuck with me as I slowly transitioned into a loose leaf tea lover and found my favourite. Even though my palette has developed a lot over the year, no matter what I’ve always loved the simple flavours of a good Earl Grey. It did take me a while to find my favourite and I tried A LOT of different options on that journey but the moment I tried Team Tea’s – Earl Grey I knew it was my all time favourite Earl Grey and that nothing was ever going to top it. Now it’s the tea I reach for when I’m feeling off and I just need something consistent that I know no matter what will always make me feel better.

This particular Earl Grey is of such an excellent quality and so well balanced which makes each and ever cup of it such a great and well rounded experience. The base is an Orange Pekoe from Sri Lanka, grown at 4000ft – 8000ft above sea level, and the only other additions are blue cornflowers and natural flavours. Bergamot wise it’s strong but not too overpowering or too floral and doesn’t overpower the tea at all, there’s also a subtle vanilla note which I wasn’t expecting at all and was pleasantly surprised by. Overall It’s very smooth with just a touch of astringency, that vanilla adds a subtle creaminess and natural sweetness to it and the bergamot is so far from artificial and is just the right strength for me.

I personally like to have this with just a teaspoon of honey added to try and combat that slight astringency but It’s great without that added as well as long as you are okay with that astringency. It not an Earl Grey I would ever add milk too as I think doing that would ruin how perfect balanced it is. I love Ceylon Orange Pekoe base because it’s clean, brisk and bright with it’s own slight floral notes and milk would overshadow that taking away some of this blends best features.

For me as simple as an Earl Grey is, it is comfort in a mug and no matter how much I enjoy other kinds of tea it will always be something I reach for when I’m just not feeling like myself and I need help relaxing and getting out of bad head spaces. It just seems to help me with everything really. No matter how I’m feeling I have no doubt in the fact that this tea will always put a smile on my face. It’s crazy how something as simple as an Earl Grey would stick with me for so long but I think all tea lovers out there have a tea like this that has been a constant part of their journey with teas and will always be a nostalgic, comforting cup for them.

So there you have it my perfect tea for every mood is an Earl Grey. Out of all the teas you own what do you think you would say is your perfect tea for every mood? let me know in the comments I would be really interested to see just how different all of your answers are and to hear the personal stories, experiences and memories behind your choices.

If you want to find out more about the specific tea mentioned in this post and try out my gold standard Earl Grey for yourself, you can do both here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter/Instagram @teaisawishblog ans I’ll do my best to answer them all as soon as I can.

Speak to you all again soon. Happy Steeping – Kimberley

  1. The UK weather is unseasonably warm at the moment; it’s unsettled my inner core temperature and made me feel a bit miserable (I don’t do well in heat at all) and so I didn’t even know what tea I wanted to drink today! I settled on a lovely YBZ in the end 🙂
