Let’s Talk Tea | Rose & Dragon (Tea Subscription) – Dec 2020 Box | Review

Hey there Teacups! I hope the week has been good to you so far. I’m back today with a new Let’s Talk Tea review and this time around I’m going to be reviewing The Rose & Dragon Tea Subscription December 2020 box. As you all know, I recently reviewed their November box and was really pleased with all the teas in it, so going into this tasting session I was mostly interested to see if this box was going to be just as good as the last one, or if I would enjoy the blends in this one more than the first one I tried. For those of you that aren’t aware, Rose And Dragon Tea is a monthly subscription in which you get 3 teas and follow at home tea meditation and mindful tips with each tea. Each packet of tea is around 20g so you end up getting lots of cups out of each blend before you have finished the box, which in my opinion is fantastic for the monthly price of £16.99.

The box was sent to me to try out and I included it in my Tea Lovers Gift Guide back at the start of December. Rose & Dragon didn’t ask me to review it at all, but I enjoyed the blends in this one so much more than I assumed I would just from reading the ingredients so I though that I had better review it as soon as I could so I could share my opinions these blends, just in case Rose & Dragon decide to include them in another box in the future. In this box there was two tea blends and one tisane and in terms of variety I would definitely say this box was more varied than the previous box as it included black tea, green tea, white tea and a tisane, most of which can be prepared in a few different ways so this box was able to provide me with so many great tea experiences. It’s definitely a really well rounded subscription especially for those of you out there that prefer flavoured teas to traditional ones and want more variety to their collection.

Tea & Tisane Tasting Notes

Winter Wonderland – A naturally caffeine free blend that uses coconut as a base with fruit pieces, cocoa shells and a warming winter spice. You all know well enough by now that I love teas and tisanes with coconut in them so I think I knew when I saw this in the box that I was going to end up enjoying it. I’ve never had a blend that uses coconut primarily as the base though, but with the addition of cocoa, a slightly fruity sweetness and warming spices, how could I not love this blend. It’s really well balanced and all of the elements in it’s flavour profile work perfectly together. I never would have thought to pair coconut and chocolate with spices but it works and the spicy kick to round off each mouthful takes the classic chocolate coconut combo to a new level. It’s naturally sweet which means I didn’t need to add honey, and its also super smooth. It’s still really cold here and this has been the perfect tisane to finish off the day with and relax for the night, the spices are heart-warming and battle the heat perfectly.

Fireside Feels – A black tea based blend with almond, chocolate and a mix of winter spices. I also really enjoy chai so theres no way I wasn’t going to enjoy this, but the great thing about it is that there is almond in this blend as well which I haven’t seen in many chai blends before. It wasn’t too prominent in the aroma but it definitely came through in the taste and was a nice natural almond that just made this feel a touch more indulgent. The black tea base is the star and pairs with the almond perfectly of course. The only thing about this blend I would say needs changing is that for my personal taste the spices in the blend weren’t strong enough especially with milk added in. I definitely would have preferred it if they were a touch stronger, but it didn’t ruin my overall enjoyment too much.

Fireside Feels – A mix of white and green tea with pieces of dried cranberry. This is the only blend in the box that I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy because cranberry isn’t normally something I am a fan of due to it’s tartness, but it actually turned out to be much more my cup of tea than I thought it would be. I had this cold and iced and I ended up enjoying it hot more surprisingly, which was completely unexpected as I normally enjoy white tea more when its iced or cold brewed. The balance between the green and white tea is fantastic with the green tea providing a nice vegetal note and the white tea providing a floral fresh quality. The iced cup I had was really refreshing though and it’s something I would try again in the future.

Overall Thoughts | I definitely enjoyed the blends in this box because there was a lot to choose from and I could prepare them different ways, I liked how different the blends in this box were to the blends in the first box I tried. Like I said earlier in the post this is a great subscription for those of you out there that mostly enjoy flavoured but still natural tasting tea based blends and tisanes. The packing is so aesthetically pleasing and I love that there is also a focus on mindfulness and meditation which I have not seen in any other subscription before.

Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5
