10 Years

When I started this blog ten years ago, I wanted to use it as a way to not only share my love of tea with others, but also as a platform for me to be able to learn and develop as a tea enthusiast and channel my creativity.

Looking back, I think I can safely say that I have achieved these objectives & so many more beyond them. Being able to explore the world of tea in these ways has been an incredible experience & I’m so grateful that I have been able to experience so many different teas over this last decade and had the opportunity to work hand in hand with so many incredible tea companies & other creatives.

These experiences have also helped to refine my palette and teach me about the sheer variety of notes that can come from tea. When I first started this journey, I was able to identify their notes on much more of a surface level, whereas now I feel like I am able to identify some of the more subtle and unique notes within each tea that I drink, down to their cultivars, harvest periods and processing techniques. This is something I have worked tirelessly on to enable me to paint the most vivid mental picture in the mind of those who read my reviews and enable them to feel like they are experiencing the tea with me.

I also feel like my knowledge of tea in general is so much more vast now when compared to ten years ago. While I knew a little about tea back then, my knowledge now feels much more well rounded & while I know that tea is an ever learning subject, I still feel like I should be so proud of how much knowledge I have gained over the years.

The introduction of art to my blog and my work as a whole was such a huge risk to take but I’m so glad I did it, because it has helped me feel more complete as a creative person & I hope that you all see that reflected in my work just as much as I do. As someone who has always had a huge passion for art, it has been an incredible experience to be able to pair this with my passion for tea.

I believe that tea & art are such a perfect and natural pairing, as both of them offer a completely subjective experience to each person that sips on or views them, so being able to pair these together is something I really enjoy doing and I feel like my ability to do so develops with each pairing I put together.

When I approach a post, no matter if it’s about tea, art or both, my aim is to show my passion for art within them. I think that being able to find creative ways of sharing the things that I’m passionate about allows me to show the best parts of them. This could be in my Palette Of Pours posts, where I aim to show just how much tea can change visually as the steeps go on, or within my Instagram carousels where I aim to find interesting visual and written artefacts to go alongside a piece of art or a particular tea. I think that the way that these aspects of my work have progressed over the last ten years is something that I’m really proud of, and it’s something that I hope to continue developing as I go forward.

I feel like I have found my own unique voice &  style over these last ten years. I’ll admit, sometimes it can be quite difficult to take my ideas and put them in writing, but it’s a nice feeling when I’m able to experience a tea or a piece of art and then be able to write exactly what that experience is like. When I started this journey a decade ago, the majority of my work was long form posts on my blog & while I have not been posting as frequently as I used to due both navigating life with chronic illness & beginning utilise other mediums as well, I still love being able to passionately write about the things that I love and share those thoughts and feeling with others, no matter the platform.

I will forever be thankful for all of the friends that I have made via this blog over the last ten years, no matter when in the last decade our paths crossed, you have helped me to keep on track, avoid burn out & learn to have faith in my creative instinct. You are a huge part of why Kimberley’s Kyusu has lasted a decade.

Thank you all for sticking with me over the last decade, no matter if you started following me ten years ago or ten days ago, I am endlessly thankful for any support you send my way.

Here’s to ten more years and beyond 🍵✨🎨🖌️
