Let’s Talk Tea | Tregothnan – Rose Tea | Review

Hey there Teacups! It’s time again for another Let’s Talk Tea post, this time around it features Tregothnan’s Rose Tea. Tregothnan’s Rose Tea is a blend of their home-grown tea leaves, Assam and gorgeous rose petals. I’m pretty new to tea blends with rise in them (You’ve probably noticed I’ve tried a few new ones already this year) but from the moment I read the description of this tea I knew I was going to love it. I probably don’t even have to remind you all of how much I love black tea and floral tea so this is pretty much a perfect blend for me.

Leaves

I didn’t really get any floral rose notes in the aroma of the dry leaves which disappointed me a little bit but luckily the rose really came through in the taste of the tea. The dry leaves were broken but still quite large in size and they had almost tripled in size once they had finished steeping. Colour wise the tea leave were both dark and light brown, and the rise petals were a delightful mix of both white and muted pink. From aroma alone I couldn’t really tell if this blend was going to be well balanced because I only really go the malty, woody and ever so slightly sweet notes of the black tea nothing more. one important thing that I’ve learnt throughout my years of drinking tea is that you simply can’t just judge a tea blend by it’s aroma. You have to take the chance and try it because often times with tea scents and tastes can actually be quite different. A lot of blends often take me by surprise so I’ve learnt to just jump straight into tasting them and form my opinions on that.

It’s safe to say that this blend took me by surprise and the rose was s much stronger in the taste than the aroma, and it paired beautifully with the black teas used in this blend. I think I would even go as far as to say that this is the best Black Tea & Rose blends that I have ever tried. It really is going to take a lot to top this. I was very kindly sent a one cup sample of this but I will no doubt be buying myself a full tin very soon. I think 2018 is going to be the year that I fully embrace floral teas and floral based blends just going on how much I’ve thoroughly enjoyed so many of them so far this year already. Mouthfeel wise it again it took me by surprise because it was so incredibly light and not drying at all. It’s been a good while since I’ve had a black tea that hasn’t made my mouth a bit dry and this was such a refreshing change. Thanks to my fiancé I’ve slowly become a fan of Turkish delight and this blend is incredibly reminiscent that especially when you add a little honey. (When I say a little I really do mean the tiniest bit because this is a naturally sweet blend.)

Overall Teacup Rating: 5/5

You can find out more about this delicious blend and purchase it for yourself here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on twitter (@teaisawishblog) and I’ll answer them as soon as I can.

Speak to you all on Sunday. Happy Steeping! – Kimberley
