Kimberley's Kyusu

Hey there Teacups, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted A Let’s Talk Teaware post hasn’t it? I love teaware just as much as I love tea, so I’m determined to bring this series back properly this year. If you’re a fan of my blog, you probably love both tea and teaware just as much as I do so I assume you’ll all be okay with me bringing this series back over the next few months. The first post of this year Let’s Talk Teaware series features a Glass Gaiwan that was very kindly sent to me by the team over at Tea Repertoire. You all know that in the last few months of 2017 I purchased my very first gaiwan (the ceramic blue one I’ve featured in many posts since it arrived) and since getting that gaiwan I’ve used it non-stop I’m simply obsessed with brewing gongfu style and I can’t wait to learn more about it throughout the rest of this year. With that in mind you can probably imagine how excited I was when Tea Repertoire offed to send me a glass Gaiwan from their newest teaware collection. While I love my blue ceramic one it’s very small and I needed one that I could use to steep larger amount of tea in.

This gaiwan is part of Repertoire glassware, which is a mouth-blown, borosilicate glass teaware collection from Tea Repertoire London. Made from pure borosilicate glass, renowned for its heat-resistance, durability, radiance and clarity. Their elegant and functional glass teaware is designed to completely every tea moment perfectly. This glass gaiwan holds a max of 100ml of water which is ideal for brewing Chinese and Taiwanese tea in a traditional gongfu style. Gaiwan is a brewing vessel that was invented during the Ming Dynasty and it consists of a bowl, a lid and a saucer. In particular gaiwan is known to be suitable for brewing Green, White and Oolong tea, as the large lid allows the heat to escape hence to not damage the heat-sensitive leaves.

Out of the two Gaiwan’s I own this is absolutely my favourite so much in fact that since it has arrived I’ve not used my blue ceramic one at all. This hold the perfect amount of tea and doesn’t get to hot to hold even with boiling water in it, my ceramic one tends to get really hot and can often burn my hands so it was nice to have a change from that. I also love that because it’s glass I can watch all of my tea leaves unfurl and dance around which can actually be quite relaxing sometimes. This will definitely not be the last piece of glass teaware I add to my collection, next on my list is some tea glasses as they would be perfect for ice teas and tea lattes.
