How Do You Brew? – Mint Choc Chip (Iced) Matcha Latte | Recipe

Hey there Teacups. Happy Matcha Monday! Today I’m going to be doing something a little bit different than my normal review content and sharing a matcha latte recipe I love with you all. I was inspired to create this recipe by two matchas that I recently tried (and reviewed) from Twist Teas. The two matcha in questions are their Cocoa Matcha and their Peppermint Matcha.  If you’ve read both of those reviews you’ll know that I loved both of those matchas and once I had tried them both for the first time I was instantly curious to see what they would be like when mixed together to make a latte and the result was a delicious mint choc chip ice cream inspired latte and I was so proud of myself. Once I knew they worked so well together I simply couldn’t keep this recipe to myself and I knew I had to share it was you all as soon as I possibly could.

What You Will Need

– Twist Teas Cocoa Matcha & Peppermint Matcha

–  Milk (for this I used Alpro Soya Barista but you can use whatever you want)

– 1 Tsp of Honey

– Ice Cubes (I used 4 for this)

– A Mug or Glass (I used my T2 Double Walled Glass and it worked perfectly but you don’t need a specific mug/glass/teacup anything will work)

How To

RoundPhoto_Apr272020_1211401) Take your matchas and put one heaped matcha scoop of each into your matcha bowl. I recommend sieving them if you can but it is not essential to make this latte and it will be just as taste if you don’t. Boil your water and wait for it to get to 85°C (yes I probably need to invest in a temperate variable kettle but that’s not something I can do right now). If like me you don’t have a temperature variable kettle, boil your water and then wait for around a minute and a half – two mins and that will be fine that’s what I do every single time I make matcha and nothing has ever gone wrong for me. Before moving onto the next step place your ice cubes into glass / cup / mug ready for what you are about to do in the next step.

RoundPhoto_Apr272020_1212062) Once your water is cool enough that it won’t make the matcha bitter, pour a small amount into your matcha bowl and whisk your matchas together to make a paste. Once you have done this add in enough water to fill your glass up just over half way and whisk to create froth (though flavoured matchas tend not to froth very well). Then add your tsp of honey and stir it until its dissolved, pour the matcha into your glass/cup/mug over the ice and stir (I used a straw but a spoon will do – just don’t use your matcha whisk).

3) I was gifted a milk frother by my fiancé Christmas just gone so the next step I do is to put my chosen milk into that and froth it using the cold setting. But I know that you might not all have a milk frother, so if you’re using soya milk especially Alpro or Alpro Barista I find giving it a good shake in the carton will make it pretty frothy. A milk frother is not essential I just really enjoy having one to make lattes like this at home.

RoundPhoto_Apr272020_1212574) Once you’ve frothed your milk add it to the glass you put your matcha in until the glass is full, stir with your straw or spoon (either will be fine) and then its ready for you to enjoy to your hearts content. I find that because this is inspired by iced cream, it works best iced but I can see it being pretty delicious hot as well. These matchas from Twist Teas are great no matter how you prepare them. I wasn’t sure if this was going to work to start off with as I thought the cocoa was going to overpower the subtler mint but it was actually pretty well balanced and you can definitely pick out both elements.

This is such an easy yet delicious matcha to make and I for one am very glad that it worked out as well as it did. I’m really glad I have quite a bit of both of these matchas left because I want to make so many more of these lattes to drink throughout the summer. I also have another flavoured matcha that I think the Cocoa Matcha will pair really well with so look out for another recipe from me in the future. If you’re yet to read my review of Twist Teas Peppermint Matcha you can find that here and you can find my review of their Cocoa Matcha here.

If you want to find out more about Twist Tea and purchase either of these matchas for yourself, you can do both here. As always if you have any questions at all either stick them in the comments or send them to me on Twitter/Instagram @teaisawishblog and I’ll do my very best to answer them all as soon as I can.

Speak to you all again soon. Happy Steeping – Kimberley
