Hey there Teacups! It’s time for another Let’s Talk Tea post, this time around I’m going to be reviewing the JK Tea Shop’s Anji Bai Cha (White Tea).I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again it’s not very often I have white tea! I’ve tried quite a few but they are always few and far between. Since trying a pressed white tea from White2Tea recently and falling back in love with it I’ve been making it my mission to try so many more and have them feature much more regularly so this white tea from The JK Tea Shop arrived just at the right time. I can never quite believe how lucky I am getting to try so many tea and tisanes from amazing companies around the world. I’m incredibly thankful that so many companies trust me and my little blog.

Dry LeavesSweet – Vegetal – Slight Floral – Very Light

It was hard to pick out a lot from the dry leaves of this tea aroma wise it is very light and to pick out much in the aroma I had to try quite hard. I tried a few things like slightly heating it with some steam and luckily, I was able to make the aroma it had a little stronger. To me the aroma of this tea is vegetal, floral and slightly sweet it reminded me a little bit of a honeysuckle flowers and I just wished that it could have been a little stronger.

Tea Tasting NotesThe white tea was much lighter than I thought it would be but despite that (which I have come to expect from white teas) it was still very good, and I really enjoyed it. With all the black tea and Pu’erh teas that I drink it was nice to have something much lighter as a little break. To me taste wise this tea is like a mixture between both green and white tea I’ve never had a white tea that has even the slightest vegetal note so to taste that when I took my first sip really did take me by surprise. I’ve tried an Anji Bai Cha before, so I thought I knew what to expect but I clearly, I was wrong. Because the dry aroma of this tea doesn’t give away much I couldn’t pick that vegetal note out until I tasted it for the first time, but it was an excellent surprise.

This is incredibly light and delicate which isn’t a bad thing at all but as a result it does just lack something flavour wise which disappointment me a little bit. For anyone out there that enjoys white teas I can imagine that this would be a perfect tea, but I think my love for strong black teas has made it so that without a strong flavour profile my enjoyment levels really do drop. Like I said that’s not to say that this tea is a bad tea its very far from that, but it just wasn’t enough for me. It has no astringency at all and is mostly smooth in the mouth until it gets to the back of your throat where it does get a bit dry. I can’t see that affecting anyone’s enjoyment of this tea though it certainly didn’t affect mine.
