Hey there Teacups! I’m back today with another Let’s Talk Tea post this time around I’m going to be reviewing Grand Tea’s Yunnan Pure Gold (Black Tea). If you’ve been reading my blog a while you’ll know that I’ve loved (and been surprised by) each tea I’ve tried from Grand Tea so far so when it came time to try another I couldn’t have been more excited. Before I get into today’s review If you haven’t read any of my pervious post featuring Grand Tea you can find them all here (Happy Reading).

Here what Grand tea had to say about their Yunnan Pure Gold on their website: ‘’ This tea is the best variety of Dian Hong. It contains only golden tips, which are usually covered in fine downs. When viewed from a distance, the dried tea appears bright orange in colour. The tea liquor is bright red in colour and exhibits a gentle aroma and a sweet taste’’. Quite a few of the teas I’ve tried/reviewed recently have been brand new to me and have completely taken me by surprise but as I’ve tried quite a few Yunnan Pure Gold’s Before I pretty much knew what to expect from it so this tasting session was more for me to see if this one would stand up against some of the amazing ones I’ve had in the past.

Sweet – Milk Chocolate – Nutty (Hazelnut & Chestnut) –Slightly Woody – Indulgent – Toffee

The tea has a much softer aroma than I thought it would a lot of the Yunnan golds I’ve had in the past have been rather strong aroma wise and I was a little bit disappointed when I didn’t get that from this tea and I’ll be honest it worried me slightly. It has a rather naturally sweet aroma and I picked out milk chocolate, toffee and hazelnut notes after it was left to acclimatise for a few minutes and even though they were very subtle notes they made me excited to try this tea again.

For this tasting session I used 3g of tea | My 150ml teapot and tumbler and 100° Water | I did four full steeps in total.

Tea Tasting Notes

This was a Yunnan Gold unlike any I’ve had before because it was incredibly light and almost all of it’s notes were muted. I’ll be brutally honest here I was expecting much more from this tea because I had such a nice aroma. Don’t get me wrong this tea tasted amazing, it’s naturally very sweet and even though they were very light it’s stand out nutty notes were to die for and the slight milk chocolate feel it has to it, makes it feel rather indulgent. I did a total of four steeps with these leaves and the 2 and 3 steeps were probably the best of them all. In the third steep a toffee note appeared in it’s aftertaste and rounded each mouthful off perfectly.

It’s far from astringent but it does have a bit of a dry mouthfeel and after my 4th steep I was left a little thirsty. But I still really enjoyed this tea and the flavour profile that it has it’s indulgent but not sickly and heavy so it will be a tea that I turn to when I want a sweet treat. Because of its natural sweetness I know it will be the perfect way to satisfy any sweet cravings I may have, with a sweet tooth like mine this is a blend like this is an absolute dream. It’s not perfect it’s pretty damn close and I think I’ll grow to love it even more over time.
